I don't own a 7mm magnum, but my father had a 7x61 S&H as his main hunting rifle. He had it made in 1960 on a mauser 98 action and if I remember correctly a Douglas barrel. very nice piece of wood with very fine line checkering. He killed mule deer, antelope and a elk with it, always worked. After my father died my son took it over so it's still being used in the family. It's pretty heavy and shoots very well.
I've never had the need for a magnum and have been using my Ruger #1 in 7x57 since the 70's. It's always worked for me, that and my .30-06. My father was 40 years old when he had it made. I'm well north of 70 now. grin
