Once I drove 2,053 miles to find a Connecticut warbler, drove over half of Minnesota in June. Finally found one in the state park that lies between Warroad and Red Lake (Bemidji Island?).

On the way I seen Lake Superior from the high ground above Duluth, from where the shoreline looks just like the maps. Seen the Boundary Waters, seen the Rainy River (flows west!) and seen Lake of the Woods at a season when first light was around 4am.

I ain’t ever likely to go shoot a moose in Alaska but I imagine the takeaway is much the same, in the end it doesn’t matter all that much if you shoot a moose or not.

Lots of mosquitoes too.
