I put little past Putin or his peers, but there is no way 600 men were equipped with only 3 shovels. Shovels are just not that hard to find, or even make.

Supposedly 129 survived but with many wounded. The piece talks about the shortage of shovels and having to wait to dig their trenches. The Russian conscripts got hammered badly.

No, but something becomes less likely to have been a lie in the first place if multiple sources report on it.
