I dont disagree with your assessment, but Actually there is a downside........WWIII.
That is how the other WWs got going. Otherwise uninvolved nations jumping into a spat instead of standing back and letting the original antagonists fight it out.
If only we hadn't fought the Spanish. If only we had let WW1 settle out on its own. The saddest words of tongue or pen are the words "it might have been".
