Evidently it doesn't involve stationary targets at ten yards, so I'm curious.

First is one that can hit. Then weed out anything that does not work. Might be more important in the end. A pistol or revolver can go from one end to the other. Bullet/boolit performance should not be taken lightly.
I have taken deer over 120 yards with revolvers but there is a difference between there and 20 yards. It is not easy and what works at 10 yards will fail at 100 or 50. You might hit at 300 yards with a scoped pistol but does the bullet work?
It is ALWAYS the bullet. Hard cast can fail and so can soft HP's.
The worst thing to listen too is bullet placement since anything can work from the .22 up but not many can hit with precision. Too many with head shots with a spotlight Most can't hit an elephant size deer.
