I actually have empathy for the mentally ill. Often, (if not self induced from years of illegal drug use) the mentally ill develop a disorder over time and it is nothing they asked for, and they have a difficult time coping with their affliction.
It is one of the reasons I am kind to people I meet on the street who have not given me a reason to treat them otherwise.
Generally you have no idea the battle others are fighting within their own minds, and many can be on the verge of a violent breakdown.
