Thanks for the quick comeback. I did order your book, I am historicly curious about my guns. Barrel is 20 1/4" to the receiver ring, and there is an extra dovetail cut just past the SAV303 stamp at the receiver. I have seen picture of a scope mount that was located at about there. No markings on the receiver itself. other than the s/n just ahead of the lever boss. The 'WEM' on the fore end is on the mating stub at the receiver end as well as in the channel. The stamping on the receiver end is about centered, with s/n 2 digits above and 3 digits below it. Maybe assembler's initials? Rear sight is marked "Savage Arms Corp Utica NY pat pending", front is Lyman, has lost its bead, If ivory, it may have gotten broken. The pin for the bead is still there.
