Savage Packed all Ammo for a While in Plain Garyish Boxes and then Transferred them to the Plant where Finial Packed,,On those Boxes ther may or May not Be Some Number in Ink Stamped either on the bottom or side.

As far as Value,,Photo's Would Help,,But the gun sounds as if it is a Family heirloom,,,so I will say Priceless for that Fact.
