Hi, I had no idea Savages had such a stong following to warrant an entire forum thread. Anyway, my dad has a Savage that he shot his first elk with which would have been around 1954-1957ish. He thinks it is a 99e, I was wondering if the experts might have some additional thoughts. He put a new recoil pad on it, and a more recent scope so it has been modified a bit.

The pics are a little crappy, I'll see if I can get him to get me some better ones.
