OK, at long last formal introductions are in order. I now have in my possession my grandad's 1899 Savage .303. Has been in my mom's closet for decades now.

20 inch round barrel
Carbine butt plate
16 inch straight stock with straight schnoble
Blade in dovetail on raised ramp
Stamped "Savage 1899 Model"
Serial number corresponds to 1924 build date

So it would seem its a 99H? "transitional" since it is stamped "Savage 1899 Model"?

Here are all the pics. Its funny, the closeups and flash make it look horrible, and I guess maybe it is. In general it appears to be in good shape. I will get it cleaned up by someone who knows what they are doing.
