Just now read this thread . Not a collector but for years have always owned and hunted with a 99 of some version. Art Savage was a genius. His savages are way ahead of the times. My favorite model is the F, have it in 250 savage and 300 sav. Scoped the 250 put a period correct aperture sight on the 300, took it to Victoria’s Island Canada and took muskox, handloader 165 gr rem corelocks. Have a 99h take down in 22hp, always wanted to find a high power in solid frame, curious to know if the solid frame shoots any better than a tight take down. The high power is a real challenge to hand load for. Hornady .228 70 grainers do not shoot well in mine. Other stubby 70 grains do alright. Found for plinking the old Sierra 63 gr.semi-spiizer .224 shoot pretty well, however they are near impossible to find amymore. Anyone out there have both solid frame and take down in the high power in decent enough shape to make a fair comparison as to accuracy?
