My father recently gave me his 99 that was bought new by his father. It is a saddle ring carbine in 303 cal. Ser#121xxx. I believe it is in the 1910-1915 vintage. I first deer hunted with it nearly 50 years ago. The saddle is still there but the ring was removed long ago. The wear mark from the ring is there. My guess is my grandfather cut it off to reduce noise.
