Yup. It wouldn't have any claim to fame - not the fastest, won't fit an AR15 or AR10, too much recoil for some and not enough power for others, isn't optimized for sub-sonics or SBRs, lower bullet B.C. than other options, etc., etc. The complaints would be endless.

Of course the selection today would be much different as there would be no .25-06, 6.5-06, .270 Win, .280 Rem, .338-06, .35 Whelen and others.

And we wouldn't be calling it the .30-06. Maybe the .30-17?
