The 30-06 is obsolete because there are so many cartridges that are better.............Which ones are better???????
The ones that kill just as well while recoiling less, having better flight ballistics, and/or fitting short actions.

I've never seen a cartridge case in flight. The flight ballistics of the bullet are irrelevant here because almost every bullet is used in multiple calibers. In fact, here's where the 30-06 excels because it can use bullet weights from 100 up to about 220 gr and use them well. I don't know if they're still made, but it would even shoot .22 cal. enclosed in sabots.
