Farming/Ranching community. Very tight knit. Had a cousin there who was a pretty prominent rancher, but he’s been dead for years. Gov. Briscoe was from Uvalde. As well as John Nance Garner settled and died there. And Dale Evans was born there!!!

Pat Garrett was a friend of Cactus Jack Garner and Garner got him to a position as a Uvalde County Commissioner. I don't think he stayed long there. He had a meeting with destiny outside Las Cruces to attend.

Barry,

King Fisher ran a toll on “his" road out there west of Uvalde into Maverick county.

"Come, shall we go and kill us venison?
And yet it irks me the poor dappled fools,
Being native burghers of this desert city,
Should in their own confines with forked heads
Have their round haunches gored."
