I did not go back and read about 10 pages but I assume it was brought up. Where were this kids parents ? Did he have a good father figure in his life ? This is a huge issue that has been getting worse over the years.

It is the issue. Damn near every mass school shooter has been from a fatherless home. There has been (and still is) a massive war against men and boys in this country that is the primary driver behind these damaged and disaffected young men attempting to get attention for themselves by committing mass murder but no one wants to acknowledge that this is the real source if the problem. Kids were taking guns to school for show-and-tell 60 years ago and everyone had an M1 carbine in their closet and no one was doing mass shootings back then. What has changed? We've destroyed the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. We've driven fathers from the home and millions of boys have grown up (and are growing up) without the civilizing effects of good fathers. There are lots and lots of programs and preferences for girls in society and the school system but boys are continually marginalized, as are men (we're part of the damned and evil patriarchy remember?). Mass school shootings are a symptom of a societal disease---the destruction of the family with a father at the head and the constant marginalization and putting down of men and boys. Leftism brought us this. Warren Farrel has it pegged.
