This is my take as well. I can understand siding with the people of Ukraine out of empathy for their position as caught between world powers and fighting for their country.
To trivialize this stuff to the point of laughing about our country wasting massive amounts of money the way we have in what was undisputedly one of the most corrupt governments in Europe while our own people struggle is insane.
