I know one thing for sure if you are off a wee bit or if the elk is not in good position a lot of meat is wasted with the heavy hitters. Trust me I know. I agree with using a 270 with the better bullets now available nowaday. Long ago many considered the 270 light for big game but we never had the better quality bullets now available. The only real advantage for heavy hitters is that they can shoot through a lot of brush or trees and still get the job done. Depends on where you hunt also has to be entered in the equation.
It is better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6.
