God gives all people free will and as such good and bad can happen to anyone. If serving the Lord meant you were guaranteed to live forever on earth, never suffer heartbreak, and gain riches we wouldn’t really have free choice. In a world of man and free choice almost anything can and does happen. “The rain falls on the just and the unjust.” “Our reward is not here but in heaven.” Are a couple of scriptures that come to mind.
