I rode it for 60,000 trouble-free miles until I sold it and bought a 1989 BMW R100 GS. This bike got worse mileage, had less power, was less comfortable, and re-introduced me to the joys of being stranded when the damn thing would break down.
Mine was a ‘93 GS/PD. I still have nightmares.
What was even worse was the ‘94, the last of the old-school R bikes. It only came in jet black with chromed crash bars, people were calling it the Batcycle. I think by then BMW was suffering paroxysms of guilt, and made it so ugly so no one would buy it.
