Except for 308 culling ammo and rimfire stuff, I seldom bother to shoot factory ammo, since CF factory ammo seldom does what I want it to do in my fleet of rifles. However, I almost always bring a rifle that is chambered for easy to find ammo, usually a 30-06, whenever I travel to hunt, since you never know if your carefully tailored ammo won't get lost or rerouted to someplace that you aren't going.

There are lots of places west of the Mississippi that are at least 100 miles from the nearest fully stocked sporting goods store, so having a rifle chambered for a common cartridge can be the difference between hunting and not hunting. I know this because a guy asked to borrow a rifle from me in eastern CO a couple of years ago 'cause nobody in Wrey had any 6.5x55 ammo and he had forgotten to pack it. So, I loaned him my old 700 Classic in 30-06 and he filled his tag.

That was the intended message that I was try to send.
