For practical purposes, what one will do, the other will do. For brushy, wooded areas you describe a M7 in 7-08 is pretty sweet (hunted with one as my primary rifle for years in just such conditions).... then again, one in .308 would be equally sweet. Personally, I prefer 7-08 just because .308 has always seemed like an "almost 30-06" whereas the 7-08 is kind of it's own thing.

If you are a ballistics geek you can load the 7-08 for like an inch less wind drift at 800 yards or some such nonsense. whistle
