EVERY doe viciously attacks any bucks in velvet that get close. The bucks never rear up and strike back but run to keep the bitches from whacking them.

Quite the contrast to after the rut when their antlers are hard and the bucks, run down from the rut by then, put the horns to any doe that gets near their food.

Just be aware, a deer can pick you out waliking in the open at least 800 yds away.
