I absolutely screwed the pooch this day. Had a black wolf respond to my calling but I kept waiting for a better shot. The wind swirled and that was that. This was the 2nd time I ‘almost’ got a wolf at this same spot.

I have a habit of making rookie mistakes on wolves. I did it this year on a white one. I was glassing a basin with my rifle was strapped to my pack 20 yards behind me when a white wolf appeared out of nowhere, 80 yards away. STUPID!


Found someone’s mining claim on my trapline. This thing had been there for a long time, and lived through at least one fire. The claim paperwork was sun degraded and very brittle. Best I could tell, it was from the 40s.

Missed this nice lynx. He pushed my guide stick out of the way and went between it and my snare, the dirty bugger. I never did catch him.
