I used to fished a secret honey hole river for steelhead where hellgramites were present. The steelies wouldn't touch em. The little bugs I bought at the store would flat out slay em. I never could figure out why they wouldn't eat the natural bait as well as the store bought. It was an unusual situation in this river the steelhead would essentially turn back into at trout and actively feed while they were in freshwater. Most steelhead in most river systems won't do this.
