Your countrymen's propensity to call someone a democrat with the expectation of it being understood that they are referring to a particularly loathsome and noisome creature is pretty much lost on most of us as we just generally take it to mean the individual voted democrat.
If for instance you said he is a 'dirty filthy democrat', we would take it as he is a dirty filthy democrat If you verbally stated he is a 'DIRty FilthY DemocraT'...we would understand the epithet to mean he is a 'filthy lowlife piece of shit'.

Ah, yes. I have recognized that the lazy jab (on our side of the pond) is the unsubstantiated accusation of being a democrat or communist. I can’t see how the political party epitaphs would cross over, but hey….ya gotta use what you got and some people (ah-em) just don’t have very much.
