It will let you know when you lift something in a way it doesn't like.
There's a weird nerve cluster or other type of pressure point in there. I know because I can reach over with my "throwing" finger and press the meaty area of the afflicted thumb just so, and it H U R T S. Can't really reproduce it any other way, nor on my other hand.
