Envious! I love upland and have a cool O/U that needs to be walked... grin... The upland bird hunting around here is not very good. There's a fee pheasant hunt on nearby F&W land (stocked birds) I used to do with my Lab Lucy, and there's a smattering of grouse and quail around, but not a lot.
We did get into some California quail last week on our chanterelle hike and I was surprised to see my muppet-dog Chloe get birdy... might be some potential there. She's a Dohki Apso, not a typical sporting breed. On the east side there's more grouse; I routinely see them elk hunting. Got into a BUNCH of sage grouse antelope hunting at Steens last year... those big suckers will give a guy a heart attack when they flush! I'd love to knock one of them out if the sky. It's a controlled hunt though.
