Yes I think NATO, not just West Europe, would go straight up war against Putin.
I am afraid cooler heads will not prevail. And I cannot imagine Russia going to defeat without using all means at their disposal. It's their nature to disregard the cost in human lives, even their own. I read somewhere once that the generation of young men born in 1919 had 2/3 killed in WW2.
Russia will go nuclear before it is defeated.
