It's difficult to know what to believe these days. But I read an article a few days ago where the West was wondering how the Russians were being so successful at taking down enemy aircraft. The crux being that possibly the Russians have developed a technology for such that the West is yet to discover.

It’s not a real big mystery. The Russians have been putting up continuous coverage by their newest version of AWACS. I believe I read they have 11 currently and are building to 100 units. It allows the Russians to see the aircraft far into the Ukraine that the Ukraine has been flying below the ground based radar horizon. The AWACS can look down to spot the aircraft and feed targeting information to S400 and S500 missiles. Newest S400’s have ranges close to 400km. Also a bunch of new Russian satellites went up this month giving better coverage.
