From what I have seen it looks like they’re defending the territory that they captured which was exactly what they set out to do. If they dug in and are defending the territory they captured and are not out taking more territory I don’t see how Ukraine dislodges them to retake that territory, not without a whole lot of interference from NATO and likely full escalation of the war.


You are 100% correct.

Also, Russia's advance last year was stopped by the Russians. They did not want to overextend their support lines and thin out the front line troops any more. Ukraine's resistance had almost nothing to do with stopping the advance.

The Russians dug in over the winter, and it will be impossible to dislodge them without massive air to ground attack coordinated with ground based armor and infantry. At this poiont, Ukraine has very little in regard to that, except for a few drones.

Drones ain't gonna cut it. They are a surgical, strategic weapon, not an offensive (or "counteroffensive") weapon.
