Basically it looks like the Russians have secured a buffer zone against NATO and if Ukraine is allowed to exist as a diminished in size nation maybe it will understand that it should not threaten Russia at the behest of the U.S./NATO. All this killing of ethnic Russians and bio-weapon labs might not seem such a good idea anymore.
