The first of the Big Five killed in Africa, with the "New Model 70" of 1964, was a cape buffalo. Quite obviously it was with one of those new-fangled .458 Winchester Magnum rifles with 22" barrel. Narration did not even mention the "old" .458 WM cartridge, despite mention of the newer .264 WM and .300 WM chamberings used. The .458 WM did not need a sales pitch. All in all a fine battery of rifles.
