Salt or the citric acid by itself does work but not quite as well. I suspect a salt anion interrupts the capsicum affect on pain receptors. Citric acid as well breaks up capsicum oil. High fat dairy products like ice cream work as well and tastes better.

Another thing is saladitos, which is salted fruit. We would stick them in a lemon or lime wedges to suck on.



And the next day when your sitting on the pot with a burning bunghole, you can say "C'MOOON ICE CREAM!"
