My Lab, Lucy, is getting old. This might be her last season. Helps keep her flushing close at least; she'd get pretty excited as a young dog and work a couple yards further out than ideal. I'm not a good enough trainer to train that out of a young dog but age did it for me <g>.

Sad when they start to go. She's got a front leg limp that has her paying a high price for typical Lab indulgences, like tennis balls or running the deer out of the yard. Shoulder I think, as her other joints seem fine and you can knead them like dough and she just grins.

I need to get out after 'em. It's a down year for grouse in the Coast Range near here. I've seen some quail; they like the brushy cuts and are damned hard to even recover sometimes. Much prefer grouse in the Cascades. And there's a nice canned pheasant hunt (stockers) in the wildlife area near here that's always good for pretending to hunt pheasants <g>...
