Sorta of a mind there be a couple or three good .338 rounds floating around already; the .338-06, .338 Win and .340 Roy. Choice to be made is how much joy one finds in the butt end of those things. Have read of lads doin' the AI thing to the .416 Rigby case and running 300 gr SMKs 3100-3200 fps out of 40" of pipe give or take. Awkward to lug around I reckon. I'm not going to say the .300 H&H base profile won't work, you only gots to sell you on the idea.

FWIW, I've a friend with a Shilen DGAM in .338 Win. Flawless function, and the accuracy most only hope for, Mac classic handle. Has a 26" barrel and runs so close to 2800 fps w/250 grain bullets the spread is pointless. We worked a load with that one that had a consistent 5 fps spread for 5 shots. Consistent as in every time it shot over the chronograph.
Well,owned a .338-06,.338 A2 own a .338 Win,.340 Wby and a .338 RUM,just have a wild hair and a .338 H&H looks interesting.

The .338 A2 is a .378 Wby shortened(2.850 I think) and a 30*(I think) shoulder. A 250 grain Nosler at 3120 with 122 grains of AA 8700.

Killed this oryx with my .338 A2. 26" barrel with a 3.5-10x Leupold scope.

Dam elk',that [bleep] will rattle your teeth lose.

No schit. Not to mention you can't even get 60 rounds out of a can of powder! Oy vay!

It ain't what you don't know that makes you an idiot...it's what you know for certain, that just ain't so...

Most people don't want to believe the truth~they want the truth to be what they believe.

Stupidity has no average...
