No, but I did prop start a 2.5 Johnson when the pull cord broke from dry rot multiple times on a late night frogging run and my mouth was too dry to reach for a shoe lace.

Dad (who was born in 1922 and fixed cars before WWII) once told me if I ever had to start a car with a crank start, that I should always pull on the crank. That way if the engine backfired, it would only yank the crank out of your hand. If you were pushing on it when the engine backfired, it could break your arm.

I have thus far, managed to avoid testing that advice. Seems applicable to airplane/airboat engines, too, however.
