Think you're referring to the Cessna Skymaster aka Suck 'n Blow. The Air Force used them in Nam for forward air control. Having saved me a lot of grief by artfully arranging total annihilation of the yellow hoards more than a few times I can't say anything bad about 'em. Too busy back in the day flying planes with both or more engines pointing in the right direction to take a S&B around the pattern.

Yup! That's what he flew and he was an FAC! It all makes sense. He wrote a couple of pretty good books loosely following his days as an FAC.
