I've also heard of people using predator calls to bring in bears.

I've only bear hunted once and I collected old baked goods from a donut shop, day old bread from subway, used fryer grease from resteraunts etc. Dig a pit, poor in the bait and cover with heavy logs and spray the surrounding foliage with liquid smoke. Then we dumped the grease around the bait site with the idea of the bear(s) getting it on their paws and leaving a trail through the woods for other bears to follow back to the bait. We also fermented oats in a 55 gallon drum and put in the bait pit but they picked around that and just ate the goodies. It sure was fun watching the drunk chipmunks though!
