I think your missing the point,there chief.
the foam is there to keep the boat afloat,or at least not to sink to the bottom.
my old 1975 18' crestliner voyager has all the bench seats except the front one filled with foam from the factory.I have refabricated several old boats,and always try to keep flotation somewhere.
wish I had taken pics of some of the other boats Ive had,Ive redone 4-5 in the past,anywhere from a wire brushing,had a few that had been damamged,needed a few dozen rivets and patches.this one just got the seats covered in astroturf. heres a few pics of a carp spearing expedition.

heres the BIL's 20 ft Lund Alaskan layout,kind of what Ryan is looking at doing.it is a nice boat to fish out of. live well is right behind the seat my son is in.
