I've been told that the embryo inside the egg gets the oxygen it needs through the shell. I would imagine that oiling the shell would fill in the pores and suffocate the embryo.
Make sense. They should just make omlets out of them, mixed with comarant meat, and some cheese, peppers, hashbrowns, and a nice side of fried walleye. That'd a little ironic, but I'd eat it.
