Yeah our old shack on the iron range had the poor mans version of that, a rain barrel
We'd use that water for cleaning dishes & stuff.
Hey welcome Cracker, I hope you are finding some entertainment in the posts here on the campfire forums.
For our water out at camp I plan to sink a PVC pipe in the ground maybe 12 to 16 feet with small holes drilled in the bottom 2 feet or so. Probably something like a 6" to 8" pipe. Basically a shallow well casing. Then I'll drop a 1" black pex tube down in there about 10' or so & we'll draw the water up out of the casing with the hand pump that Dusty bought for the camp.
It still wont be drinking water but it should be some really good water for cleaning up & doing dishes. It should work in the winter too with the pump pulling from below the frost line. (maybe )
