I am only doing it so it looks "nice" when we sell it. I've already re-done the windows and trim. I don't want to install new cabinets to sell.

Now, if I have to re-do the cabinets at the new place, I'll talk to you.....

Hey,you asked my preference. grin

I would give the cabinets a good scrubbing with a few sanding sponges ,enough to remove all dirt and oxidation,and give them the best paint job you can.
make sure your paint is compatible with the old finish( most are) and your results should be great.
