Well, at least you guys are hunting. I'd have a pistol for those grouse for sure. Heck, I'd give up on the deer for the grouse given what I've been hearing about both.
I spent the day stalking a Marlin 1893, but passed on the only one I saw. Then I bagged a good sized pignut hickory. Killed it deader than dead with a Stihl MS361. One cut kill. Bastard to pack out though. Those hickory are heavy.
