Actually, yes. When we wash clothes, ocaisionally the drain in the laundry room does emit an odor.

No problem with the toilets or kitchen sink though. Just the bathrooms.

T, if you are getting a sewer odor in the house, you very well could have a venting issue.

IF the venting is not working properly in your Drainage system, then as the wastewater flows down the pipe, this wastewater can pull (syphon) the water out of your p-trap.

The purpose of the water in the trap is to form a liquid seal which prevents sewer gas from entering the house.

The only other reason to lose your trap seal is from evaporation, but this takes some time to happen. If your smelling the odor in a room which has water running on a normal basis ( laundry room included), then evaporation is not likely the issue. Most likely improper venting is sucking the trap seal downstream with the wastewater.

If you smell gas in a room, or floor drain that doesn't get used often, add water as needed to the trap, or add 1 cup of cooking oil to the drain, oil doesn't evaporate like water.

T, 1 last question, as far as this "smelly odor", Is Jared Allen or Brett Favre living with you? whistle
