bubbajay is refering to a story a while back where a large cat was discovered east of MN and DNR claimed that they had cataloged scat from the lion someplace in MN.
They recognized the poop.
I got a chuckle out of that too. WI DNR did the same thing when they REALLY, REALLY didn't want to admit there being bit cats in WI. There were photos popping up on the news, my FIL was even interviewed because there was one in his yard and the neighbors...DNR said NOPE, you saw a bobcat. He's been in the woods for 60, pretty sure he knows what Mt. Lion looks like.
One of the cats was killed or photographed in north central WI and the DNR finally said, "well based on DNA that particular cat was passing through from the Dakotas."
