At my old house I had reason to be concerned with vandalism and theft. I did keep trail cams on the place well concealed, but I also had an old junker that didn't function strapped to a tree in plain open sight. That was a decoy. People tend to behave themselves if they know there's a camera out. If there's one camera in plain view, it's likely there is at least one more hidden. They can steal the one in plain view, but all they get is a broken camera, meanwhile you get a picture of them stealing it on your concealed camera.
The decoy keeps 99% of would be thieves and vandals at their best behavior. That other 1%, that's your "stupids" that can't be fixed. But they can be prosecuted.
