Jeff, That's an older BAR; all steel. I have a new 30-06 BAR also, but it has some plastic on it. Its a Safari (or something like that-the more expensive one). I've never fired a short-track. I shot about 60-70 deer and antelope with the .270 and have always felt like I could kill anything and however many of whatever that I could see at the time. Its accurate; I shot a mule deer doe in the heart at over 600 yards with one shot- a few years back. Anyway, I can't say enough good about it.
