I have a railing, a couple actually, in my house that I want to paint. It has the wonderful hi-gloss finish everyone liked in the late 80's early 90's. Is a good sanding good enough on that or do I need to strip it? It could be a good excuse to buy a detail sander.
depends on what you want to put on it. same stuff but low gloss,just hand sand it , and brush it on. some old finishes ,with certain paints,just scuff sand ( no power sand needed) and paint away. Of course it depends,but normally stripping isn't needed.
