I think I've only fished on MN opener...it was 1999. I was leaving for WI to live a few weeks later, so I figured I better at least do one opener. A group of guys from work went up to Kab to camp in Voyagers Nat. Park and fish. We didn't do well on the fish.
On the WI openers, I always went to the WI river because I had it to myself, since the lakes were open.
At that point, I'd been fishing the river for about a month anyway so I had a few spots sniffed out.
